Beautiful, Akimel O'odham (Pima), geometric coiled basket.
Measures 3 1/4" high x 6" in diameter and the base measures, 5 1/2" in diameter.
This basket is coiled, done in a devils claw geometric design, finished with a stunning herringbone weave. The interior matches the design on the outside.
The Akimel O'odham (Pima or River people)tribe are out of Arizona and were basket makers through the late 19th Century. They used devil's claw for their designs, local grass or cattail for the ground and ended with a gorgeous herringbone weave. (Information credited to Wikipedia).
It is showing wonderful patina with very minor loss on the base, which shows in the last photograph provided.
