SALLY RAND BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE NUDE EROTICA HISTORIC LAMP

SOLD

We have the privilege to offer you this rare and beautiful Sally Rand Music Box retro linen fiber lamp shade with lamp from the original music box night club on O'Farrell Street. This might be the only one left and is a very nice piece of history.

This is a rare lamp shade, and is just gorgeous featuring the beautiful burlesque dancer, Sally Rand, standing inside a music box with maroon and red smoke streaming out of it. Beautiful gold music notes are floating throughout the smoke. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NITE CLUB IN AMERICA is draped from Sally's beautiful hips to the base of her thighs with the Music Box, 859 O'Farrell St. San Francisco logo below the gold music box. The base is of beautiful mahogany with brass filigree.

Sally Rand was born on April 3rd, 1904 under the name, Helen Gould Beck in Hickory County, Missouri and passed at the age of 75 on August 31st, 1979 in Glendora, California. She was also known as Billie Beck. The name, Sally Rand, was given by Cecil B. DeMille and was inspired by a Rand McNally atlas.

Sally was a burlesque dancer and actress. She was most noted for her ostrich feather fan and balloon bubble dances. In 1920 she acted on stage and appeared in silent films. She made the fan dance a popular dance, which was started at the Paramount Club in Chicago. Her most famous appearance was at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933, which was entitled Century of Progress.

In 1907 a French architect and Chris Buckley, a political shaker, came up with Blanco's, which was a restaurant and bordello up until the Great Depression in 1933. Sally, three years later, purchased The Music Box burlesque hall in San Francisco in 1936. At the end of World War II, the Music Box shut down and later Blanco's was reopened in 1948, as a jazz club. Later it was renovated, as a French restaurant, Charles, which was not in business long and in 1972 the Great American Music Hall was opened.

This is definitely a wonderful conversational piece and would display well in any retro setting, maybe infront of a window in a living room or study. The lamp does work and the colors are just beautiful once lit. A great addition for any Sally Rand collector.
